Onetangi Beach is Waiheke Island's biggest beach. The north facing beach in Onetangi Bay stretches for 1.87 km. The beach overlooks Great Barrier and Little Barrier Island in the distance.
The beautiful golden sand beach has some of the cleanest waters in the Auckland region. Running in parallel with the beach is a couple of cafe and restaurants which provide a scenic location to enjoy a bite to eat while taking in the fantastic beach views. Along the beach there is a picnic area complete with BBQ cooking facilities.
For many years it has been the site of the Onetangi Beach Races. This iconic Island event has been held for over a hundred years and draws thousands of islanders and visitors alike. It's one of the Islands' most popular events with the races typically taking place in March.
The beach is part of Waiheke Island walkways. The route criss-crosses the area, taking in impressive views from the cliffs above the beach. The walk will take about an hour and includes the chance to see mature bush remnants including nikau grove and a kauri in Victoria Reserve. The walk begins at The Strand and Fourth Avenue intersection.
